Buffalo Trail Map

The Buffalo Trail is a somewhat challenging hike through the Front Range, with some steep sections and rocky terrain. The trail is well-maintained and clearly marked, but it's still a wilderness hike with some steep and rocky sections so be prepared to be autonomous. The trail changes in character through the year - in spring and summer, wildflowers dot the landscape, while fall brings vibrant colors to the aspen trees.

Description

The Trail is in Golden Gate Canyon State Park, just a short drive from downtown Golden, and the trailhead is easily accessible from the park's main entrance off of Golden Gate Canyon Road. Once hiking the trail offers some staggering views of the higher Front Range peaks, and leads you through some gorgeous open meadows, as well as section of forests and groves.

The trail starts at Rifleman Phillips Group Campground and leads to Forgotten Valley Campground, so accommodation options abound!
