Even though Telluride is well-known for backcountry skiing, the resort is not very accommodating to uphill users. Telluride Ski Resort only allows uphill access in the zone beneath Sunshine 10 lift, which is mostly green terrain that snakes among vacation homes. It’s still plenty convenient for a free workout, however, because access is all day and free parking is usually available. Be sure to know the uphill policy ahead of time.

The route mapped here is just one possibility for skinning to the top of Sunshine 10, taking Double Cabin the whole way. This is a green groomer, with what can best be described as rolling terrain. The going is easy and the views are nice, despite the roads and homes that surround. For novice uphillers, the few steeper pitches are enough to work on skinning technique, especially when icy. Once at the top, you can enjoy some blue and even black terrain for the first part of the way down, then it’s all green for the runout back to base.
