Little Pawnee North Couloir East Map

Thin and walled-in, this route gives a true alpine feel. From the top of this or its conjoined route Zig-Zag, it's a Class 3 scramble west to the summit.

Description

From Blue Lake, locate the two obvious chutes on the south side. This is the looker's left option. About halfway up the couloir, there's the option to climb Zig-Zag instead, for a steeper top-out and descent. To continue on easier terrain, keep left at this intersection. The bottom is almost always very sharky, so go slowly and deliberately so as not to accidentally hit rocks.

Difficulty

Severe

Steep skiing at 38-45 degrees. This requires very good technique and the risk of falling has serious consequences.

Low Exposure (E1)

1 out of 4

Exposure is limited to that of the slope itself. Getting hurt is still likely if the slope is steep and/or the snow is hard.

Remoteness

3 out of 4

Little chance of being seen or helped in case of an accident.

between April and June
