Lower City Creek Loop Map

The City Creek trail system is loved by Pocatello residents, and makes an easy outdoor destination for visitors as well. It’s an extensive network of trails in the hills, with nearly endless route options, but the perfect introductory loop can be found with Lower City Creek and Bench trails.

Description

The trailhead parking area is a small dirt lot. The trail that begins from here and connects to all the others is Lower City Creek. It starts out rather wide, but after the first intersection becomes a narrow path among the trees, gently ascending beside a trickling stream. All the trails here are popular with mountain bikers, but this particular trail is for riders to go uphill only, so hikers don’t have to worry about high-speed bikes.

The trail meanders through this lush little valley, crossing the stream several times on footbridges. Other trails branch off here and there, but you’ll stay on the path closest to the creek to complete the loop as mapped here. At a bigger trail junction in a sunny clearing, the signed Bench Trail heads uphill. Follow this to return down the valley toward the trailhead. Bench trail goes up onto the prairie-covered hillside, granting views over the city and surrounding mountains.
