Tule Peak Map

Imagine, you are driving north on 395 towards Reno. You just skied an epic line in the Eastern Sierra and your mind wanders as the scenery blurs past. Suddenly, just as you drop towards the city, a distant snow-covered peak to the north catches your attention.

Description

That mountain is Tule Peak, and yes, you should go ski it.

Follow Winnemucca Ranch Road past all the informal gun ranges, and turn to the northeast, parking just before a muddy spring. This "tour" begins with a long sagebrush walk, bring some hiking shoes. Ascend the obvious southwest ridge and revel in the fantastic views of Pyramid Lake before picking your descent.

The northwest slopes can hold a long rolling run, while the south face is the more "classic" corn run. Do your research and make sure there is enough coverage before heading out...this peak doesn't always hold much snow. This peak provides a wonderful feeling of solitude and great views towards the crowded slopes of the Tahoe Basin.
