The Rio Grande Bosque is one of Albuquerque's true gems. Due to the Rio Grande's historic propensity to flood, the city's construction was kept well back from the waterway, leaving this incredible green space running through the heart of the city.

Description

Today, the Bosque is an unbelievable recreational asset for ABQ. From dog walkers to runners, road cyclists, gravel bikers, mountain bikers, and more, all types and stripes of local residents utilize the gorgeous trails running through the Bosque.

The route shown here is a point-to-point hike along el Paseo del Bosque, beginning at Alameda/Rio Grande Open Space in the north and ending at Rio Bravo Boulevard in the south. While it's unlikely that you'd hike this point-to-point route as shown, the route is mapped here to give you inspiration for many of the beautiful walks that are available along this paved bike path. You can choose to walk an out-and-back from any point along this route and for as far as you desire. For example, the Bio Park is another popular starting spot, in roughly the middle of the trail.

The trail mapped here is the designated paved bike path, but there are innumerable gravel and singletrack trails running through the Bosque that go closer to the banks of the Rio Grande. If you're willing to explore, the possibilities are nearly endless! Just be sure to start your Strava before you head off the path so that you can find your way back 😅
