The Ledges Trail tops the list as one of the most stunning hikes within Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Outside Online even ranked it as the best hike in Ohio in 2019—and for good reason. This loop explores massive sandstone cliffs, wanders through vibrant forests, and even offers some commanding views along the way. While some may consider it easy overall, others may find it challenging due to some stairs and tricky footing. That said, this route is great for the entire family—including the dog!

Description

"The Ledges drew many visitors in the 19th century who came here to recreate and play," the NPS writes. "One of those, wealthy industrialist Hayward Kendall, purchased the area and set it aside to become the Virginia Kendall Park." Today, this trailhead boasts a large field and two shelters that can be reserved for day use. More information on both the Ledges and nearby Octagon Shelters can be found here.

According to Outside Online, "the two-mile Ledges Trail in Cuyahoga National Park skirts the tops of sandstone cliffs that tower a couple hundred feet above the Cuyahoga River." A vista atop the tree line offers spectacular views and can be especially stunning if you plan your hike around sunrise or sunset.
