Second to the Big Badlands Overlook, the Window Trail is one of the shortest overlook hikes in Badlands National Park. Accessed via boardwalks and level terrain, this brief trek climbs less than 10' and is perfect for any age or ability. At a window-like gap in the formations, you'll be awarded spectacular views of stunning sandstone formations.

Description

In total, the hike to this overlook shouldn't take more than 30-minutes, even when factoring in a few stops for photos. There are also benches along the way should you need to stop and catch your breath. Summer daytime temperatures can easily exceed 100-degrees, so bear that in mind when planning your hike.

The trailhead for this hike is especially large, with plenty of parking for both trailers and larger RV's. Two other classic hikes, the Notch and Door Trails, also share the same trailhead. Should you have the time, a visit to all three is an awarding endeavor.

There is an entrance fee to access the park, and current rates can be viewed here. As with most National Parks, dogs are also not allowed on any hiking trail in the park.
