Fifth Water Hot Springs Trail Map

The Fifth Water Hot Springs are one of the most popular hike-in hot springs in Utah. This trail also makes for a great trail run.

Description

This 4.5-mile out-and-back trail takes you along the banks of Fifth Water Creek, a tributary of the Diamond Fork River, through a red rock canyon and lush forest. Along the way, you'll encounter three stunning waterfalls and several pools of milky blue and green water that invite you to soak and relax.

The trail starts at the Three Forks Trailhead in Diamond Fork Canyon, where you'll find a bathroom and plenty of parking. Follow the trail southeast along the east bank of Sixth Water Creek, and do not cross the first footbridge. After a mile, you'll reach another footbridge, which you should cross. This is where Sixth Water Creek and Fifth Water Creek meet. From here, follow the trail upstream along Fifth Water Creek for another mile and a half. You'll know you're close to the hot springs when you smell sulfur and see the water turn a milky blue color.

The first pool you'll see is on your right, where someone built a rock wall to divert the hot water into a deep pool. A little further upstream, you'll see two more pools on either side of the creek, near the base of a waterfall. There are several other pools that have been created by visitors, some hotter and some cooler than others. The water temperature at the source is about 111 degrees Fahrenheit, but it cools down as it mixes with the creek water. You can explore and find your favorite spot to soak, but be careful of broken glass and other trash left by previous visitors. Also, be aware that some people have reported getting "swimmer's itch" from the bacteria in the water.

After enjoying the hot springs, you can retrace your steps back to the trailhead. The Fifth Water Hot Springs Trail is a great way to experience the beauty and diversity of Utah's landscape. Whether you're looking for a relaxing soak, a scenic trail run, or both, this trail has something for everyone.
