A great tree run that is inbounds and unmarked is known by locals as "The Light". The reason for the name is at the entrance, the trees are fairly tight but then it opens up into a nice snowfield called “The Light”. To access this location, you need to take the Canyon Quad or North Ridge Triple. There are several ways to get to the Canyon Quad but not from the base. You can take the K1 gondola to Killington peak and take Great Northern (Blue express trail) to any of the following trails you need to get into the canyon area for Canyon Quad access. The choices are: Escapade, Cascade, Downdraft and Double Dipper which are all marked as double black diamond trails. Or, you can opt for a single black diamond on Lower East Fall or Royal Flush. You can also get into the canyon area off the North Ridge Triple. This is a short chairlift at the top of the peak. If you take this lift, you can take Rime or Upper East Fall to Lower East Fall. Or, you can exit the lift to the left and skate over to where the Canyon Quad unloads. Either way, the entire canyon area is considered expert terrain and gets little light. You need to be confident in your abilities to navigate this area of Killington. Consider that tree runs in the eastern resorts are much tighter than the western resorts. There are a lot of small trees, brush, roots and ice that make trees in the east a real challenge. The route to The Light is off Double Dipper. Once you unload off the Canyon Quad, exit the lift to the left. Start your descent down Double Dipper on skier's right. Pass the first catwalk on your right. Take the second catwalk on the right and enter the trees ten yards down the catwalk. The entrance is all unmarked trees and they are tight. As you descend through these trees, they will start opening up. Stay towards the skier's right until you see a clearing. If you go too far right, you will just dump out on Downdraft. You will eventually either exit the trees on Downdraft or Double Dipper. This tree run is short but sweet. Perfect advanced/expert rating for people looking for a short tree run without fear of going outside the resort boundaries.
