Resort Ski Touring Difficult
Snow King is unique among US ski resorts by having an in-bounds uphill route that’s just for bootpacking. It’s also open to hikers with shoe traction, but all users need to have Snow King’s uphill pass, which is also uniquely expensive. See the uphill travel page for the policies and more information.
The Bootpack is excellent training for skimo racing and backcountry skiing, however, so many locals find the price worthwhile to have it in their backyard training ground. If you’re visiting Jackson and making uphill training a real priority, you can choose to buy a day pass for access to this and Snow King’s other uphill routes for skinning. The Bootpack starts near the tubing park and essentially goes straight up the hill, hugging the treeline at the side of Exhibition run. Once at the top of the mountain, you can switch to skis and descend on any open run. If going up without skis, you could descend the same way or take the Summer Trail route to get down.
