Description

New York City—the largest city in the United States of America. With a population of over 8.6 million people in the city limits and over 20 million people in the NYC metro area, New York isn’t a location that springs to mind as a mountain biking destination. And yet, of those tens of millions of people, likely a few million at least enjoy outdoor adventures such as mountain biking, hiking, downhill skiing, and more. So what do you do if you love to ride and you want to get out and shred some singletrack?

While of course you could hop on a plane, there’s a surprising array of mountain biking opportunities in and around NYC. A few trail systems on Long Island, such as Stillwell Woods, offer quick access to some green space. But the further afield you go, the more the opportunities open up. Without driving more than two hours, you can access a myriad of riding opportunities. The best downhill mountain biking on the East Coast can be found at Mountain Creek Bike Park, and the expansive network of trails at Blue Mountain State Park offer something for everyone.

However much time you have or however far you want to drive, this mountain biking guidebook will give you the information you need to escape the rat race and instead race down some singletrack!
