Plassen Runde

Dachstein Salzkammergut

*The Plassen Runde is a classic among the mountain bike tours in the Salzkammergut. The Schäferalm, the Vordere Grubenalm and the Rossalm (https://dachstein.salzkammergut.at/oesterreich/gastronomie/430000775/rossalm-gosau.html), which is open in summer, are the first highlights of the Plassen Round. This is followed by a downhill run to romantic Hallstatt before it's back uphill to Gosau*.

The highlight of the Plassen round:

Description

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The great feeling when you arrive at the highest point, the Durchgangalm, after the crisp ascents of the mountain bike tour!

With the Plassen round, mountain bikers can expect a crisp day tour in the Dachstein Salzkammergut. There are two options - either we ride directly to the climbs or we take a loop and admire the Gosausee ( https://dachstein.salzkammergut.at/welterberegion/gosausee.html ) including the Dachstein. The Plassen Runde is about 1500 m high. Some highlights are passing on the 47 km. These definitely include the Rossalm, the Dachstein, the Plassen, the waterfalls in the Echerntal and the famous Hallstatt. Maybe you will discover one or the other personal highlight that we have missed so far?

Option 1: Start at the Gosau tourist office. We drive to the Gosaubach and further up to the Steinermühle. There we take the gravelled forest path in several bends upwards past some huts towards Rossalm (a detour to Plankensteinalm is worthwhile). On the forest path we descend in the Echerntal (asphalt start) to Hallstatt. There we take the Hallstatt state road to the Gosaumühle junction. Turn left there and then left again on the old path. This leads briefly uphill again and joins the main road again. There we drive to the village of Gosau (Klaushof) and turn left and drive along a narrow path, keeping right, via the Vitalhotel back to our starting point.

Variant 2: Start at the Gosau tourist office. Continue to the Gosaubach. There along the right bank to Hintertal and up to Vorderen Gosausee. Keeping left, the forest path leads up to the crossing Grubenalm and continues towards Rossalm (a stop is worthwhile) as in variant 1. Great panorama of Gosaukamm on the ascent. (Identical with Dachsteinrunde Schwarz)

Caution on the "Strähnhag" section; very steep terrain; danger of falling; dismounting recommended.
