Freeride Skiing Severe
Leave the summit station of the Zugspitze towards Austria and start walking/skiing the ridge until a mellow col right after the abandoned 'Grathotel' on the right. Start skiing the steep northwest side keeping slightly right, always following small couloirs. Be aware of the via ferrata rope below the snow; in some places it is well visible and in others it is hidden below the snow! Keep right towards the little natural tunnel called 'Stopselzieher' (note that sometimes walking down is a better option.) Ski down into the big bowl and traverse towards the Wiener-Neustaedter Hut. Pass the hut on the right side and traverse heading left on the summer path until you reach the entrance of the 'Viererkar' - the final section of the descent. Ski down until you reach the Tiroler Zugspitzbahn. The line is only skiable a couple days per year when there is enough snow and the avalanche hazard is low enough.
Severe
Steep skiing at 38-45 degrees. This requires very good technique and the risk of falling has serious consequences.
