The Northover Traverse

A great traverse with one of the best views in the rockies. Run it in a day or make it a three-day backpacking trip.

You can go either direction on this loop, although I prefer to head to Three Isle Lake and go that direction.

Description

The trail starts off nice and wide and progresses to a nice soft backcountry trail. As you start to climb up, you get into the AB rock, and it becomes more strenuous.

It is very straightforward until you're in the valley bottom and have to climb to the ridge. It is a steep slope to climb with lots of awkward rocks to traverse over.

Once on the ridge, you should move slowly and carefully as you need to choose your footing and route accordingly. The time spent up high on this ridge is not long, and then you are descending toward Astor lake.

You will cross a big snow section, but you can cross to the trail.

Then it is a similar route from the start and leads you back to the main trail.
