Begin by heading west over the Seine, and you’ll soon find yourself in Parc de Saint-Cloud, considered one of the most beautiful gardens in all of Europe. Officially outside the outer ring road of Paris, there’s considerably less human traffic in this park, yet plenty of centuries-old monuments and spectacular views on this 12km loop to hold captivation at a high.

Along with the magnificent gardens of Le-Nôtre and Marie Antoinette, a museum occupies a portion of the 460 hectares of park, devoted to the Château de Saint-Cloud, once the home of Napoleon Bonaparte and Marie Antoinette. The chateau was destroyed by fire during the Franco-Prussian war in 1870 and is currently undergoing reconstruction.

With hills come the views, and Parc de Saint-Cloud is no exception. Panoramas of Paris’s elegant Eiffel Tower and the Seine can be seen from the highest point: La Lanterne viewpoint. Enjoy the work to get there.

Once you’ve exhausted the trails, return over the bridge of the Seine towards Boulogne Pont de St. Cloud and continue east for no more than one hundred metres before stumbling across the “best boulangerie in Boulogne” at La Fromentine.

Endurance queens and kings can combine with a loop of Bois de Boulogne for extra mileage.
