Alpsitze East Shoulder Map

Climb up the via ferrata through the north face of the Alpspitze (about 600 vertical meters). The first part can be done with skins but it soon gets too steep. Crampons and an ice axe are sometimes useful for the latter part of the ascent. From the top of the Alpspitze, descend the open East side into the 'Oberkar' (The bowl above schöngänge) with steep sections in the middle. From here either follow the descent of the 'Bernadeinkopf to the bottom of the Bernadein lift or ski down the steep 'Schoengaenge' Via Ferrata. (This is only possible with lots of snow.) Make sure to only go when the avalanche hazard is moderate or low since avalanches can sweep down through the 'Oberkar' and drop over the 'Schoengaenge' (the area between the Oberkar and the ski area).
