Starting at the pretty medieval town of Templin’s train station, head down to the lakefront via Seestraße. Walk left, keeping the lake on your right, and stop to admire Templin’s well-restored medieval town wall and the striking 18th-century city gates.

Leaving the architectural delights behind and getting into nature, cross over the Pionierbrücke bridge, following green marked signs for “Circular Path Templiner Stadtsee” and “Bruchsee” which will lead you into the forest and next to the lakeshore. Pass by the Kaffeesorten Seeblick cafe, along the lakes north shore, where you’ll come across a couple of nice benches to stop and enjoy the view of the Templinerstadt See merging with the Bruchsee. Walk through the forest and then across a meadow, across a bridge, and onto a road, carrying along the road parallel to the train tracks, passing through Fährkrug and back to Bruchsee. Following along the southern shore of the lake, you will eventually come back to Templin via the shore path and then onto Prenzlauer Allee.

Before heading back to the train station and onto Berlin, you should check out Templin’s charming high street with its collection of independent cafes and restaurants, a particularly nice spot is the Altstadtcafe (Am Markt 11, 17268 Templin).

Trains from Berlin to Templin leave from Ostkreuz station and take 1.5 hours, so start your day early or plan to stay overnight!
