This trail traverse Hjálmárdalsheiði pass (550 m), previously the main route between the fjords. The way down to Seyðisfjörður is steep, especially the highest slopes. Wading or hopping on stones is necessary over two unbridged streams, Kolsstaðaá and Hjálmá, in the upper part of Hjálmárdalur valley however, Fjarðará river in Loðmundarfjörður is bridged above Sævarendi. Cairns often mark the route and one on the uppermost pass contains a logbook. Eiders nest at Sævarendi; please show consideration by staying on the marked trail during the nesting season.
