Saying that a Dolomites ski tour is scenic is rather like saying that snow is white - it's guaranteed! However, even by the extraordinarily high local standards, this is a gorgeous journey into perhaps the most stunning part of the whole Dolomites.

Description

The trip starts from the legendary Rifugio Pederü. Start by following the easy jeep track from Pederü up to the equally legendary Rifugio Fanes. The scenery is great all the way and there's nothing to worry about because you're on a snow-covered jeep track which is well travelled and easy to follow. The track is initially steep but moderate for most of the way and you can get on with enjoying the scenery.

The Fanes hut is magical - the atmosphere is amazing and the food is excellent. Many tourers choose to stay overnight at the hut in order to break this tour up, and in order to enjoy the hut to the maximum. Even if you think you can do this tour in a day, it's worth staying at the Rifugio Fanes just for the fun of it.

From the hut skin up to a small col called Passo Limo. Leave skins on and descend very briefly to a small lake. There's a short section of steep-ish (25 degrees) skinning to access a shelf which you then climb to the summit slope. Zig zag onto the summit ridge and then go easily to the summit. The summit seems to hang impossibly above some huge cliffs, and it seems impossible that you could have reached it with so little technicality.

The summit itself is pointed but there's space to transition - either return the same way or take a more direct line off the top as shown by our line. The skiing is fun and never difficult. Enjoy every turn!
