Angelus Peak is another great option for a ski tour based out of the Angelus Hut. Being that the structure is relatively new and barely used during the winter there is a good chance you will have it to yourself. That being said the approach via Robert Ridge is pretty long and while straightforward the trail will be buried in snow during the winter.

Description

Leaving from the Mount Robert Road make your way up to Robert Ridge before doing the long ridge traverse over to the Angelus Hut. If it is a good snow year you will be able to skin most the time but if a bad year expect to be on loose rocks most of the time. After passing by 4 separate basins you can finally descend down to the Angelus Hut and get some sleep in preparation for the day ahead.

Leaving the Angelus Hut you can either go directly for Angelus Peak or climb up to point 1860 before descending the southern slopes into the valley just below the peak. Being on the edge of Hinapouri tarn make your way South climbing up the valley until arriving at Sunset saddle. From here it is a semi mellow ridge scramble East before arriving on the top of Angelus Peak. From the vantage point you get a great view of the lake before descending the northern slopes back into the basin. The initial turns are in a semi steep and tight chute before it opens up and you can ride all the way down to the tarn below.

Being back at the shoreline of Hinapouri you can do a mellow climb northeast to get back to the Angelus Hut. Exiting the Hut just retrace your route back to the Robert Mountain Road or if there is bad weather you can head north down to the Speargrass track to stay out of the alpine, either way you choose both of these trails arrive at the same parking lot.
