Hike up to Gaustatoppen is on many Norwegians bucket lists. This is the hard-going and steep way to the top, from Rjukan via Selstali Seter, up the north side of Gaustatoppen. With a climb of 1600 metres, the north side of Gaustatoppen is a full-day adventure if you start from Rjukan railway station. You can also drive the 18 kilometres to Selstali and start from there.
