One of the most prominent types of undergrowth is the brilliant-green covering of towering ferns, adding a prehistoric feeling to the area.

The trail itself, like most redwood grove hikes, is smooth and nontechnical. In fact, it consists of compacted gravel that is built wide enough for wheelchairs to negotiate it. Anybody can enjoy this short but sweet hike in the redwoods!
