The "Stout Grove is the world’s most scenic stand of redwoods," asserts the authors of RedwoodHikes.com. "It’s not all that large, and it doesn’t have the biggest trees, but for sheer photogenic beauty nothing beats this extraordinary grove on a sunny afternoon."

Description

The hike through the Stout Grove is short and sweet, but it can be extended with other nearby trails. This 0.8-mile route loops through the heart of the grove, with a dogleg to visit the banks of Mill Creek. To extend your hike, head east up Mill Creek.

The trail is smooth and non-technical the entire way, with a wide, flat character that winds through the ferns and towering redwoods of the Stout Grove. The sky-scraping redwoods will have you staring up into space, trying to wrap your mind (futilely, at that) around the sheer massiveness of these trees.
