This is the perfect path if you want to spend a relaxed sunny afternoon on the bike sightseeing. Bicycles are only allowed on paved park roads and this 12 mile multi- use recreational path in Yosemite Valley.

Description

There are a few spots where you can rent bikes, a couple of good ones are Yosemite Valley Lodge and Curry Village.

There’s lots of bike parking spots so you should think to bring a bike lock, and walk the remaining trails to sightseeing highlights, which span off from the central bike trail. For example you can access The Ahwahnee, Lower Yosemite Falls, Leidig Meadow, Hanging Bridge, and El Capitan Meadow this way. You’ll also come across Bridalveil Meadow in the west and Mirror Lake in the Renata Canyon, below Half Dome in the east.

Mirror Lake is a must. The last remnant of a large glacial lake that once filled most of Yosemite Valley at the end of the last Ice Age. It has slowly been shrinking due to sediment accumulation and is now close to disappearing completely.

There’s also plenty more short detours signed along the route, as well as cafes, pizza, and ice cream pitstops. Sticking to the loop is a solid 12 miles trip, taking an average of 90 minutes to 2 hours.

Be aware that all riders under 18 must wear a helmet, as required by California law. You may find it a more pleasant experience to complete the bike route in spring or autumn, as in the height of summer this trail gets very popular.
