Prospector Map

The Prospector Trail on the backside of Crested Butte Mountain Resort is yet another two-way trail that either can be accessed with a lift ride or can be pedaled up. The trail is mapped here in the downhill direction, but of all the two-way trails on CBMR property, this is one of the most common climbing trails. So, if you want to ride any of the two-way trails in the resort but don’t want to pay for a lift pass, consider climbing Prospector.

Description

This intermediate singletrack features switchbacks running up and down the hillside for both a mellow climbing or descending grade. The trail tread is punctuated by occasional roots and small rocks, but is very smooth and easy overall.

If descending this trail, ride within control so that you can easily navigate the sharp switchbacks, which have a tendency to come upon you quickly. Also ride heads-up for other mountain bikers and hikers, due to the aforementioned uphill traffic.

Difficulty

Moderate

Mostly stable trail tread with some variability, with unavoidable obstacles 8in/20cm tall or less. Other obstacles such as rock gullies and steep sections may exist. Ideal for lower intermediate riders.
