Old Chute Map

Begin at the Timberline Climbers Parking lot. Follow the obvious groomed path to the top of Timberline’s Palmer chair lift. Continue up, targeting the east side of Crater Rock. Once you have made it to the relatively flat moraine look for the obvious snow chute just west of the summit. This is your objective. Traverse up and west, over the hogsback. Ascend the wide chute and you’re at the top. To continue to the summit, traverse east on the exposed ridgeline to the top.

Description

For the descent, ski down the chute but trend west (skiers right) of crater rock. Ski down to around 8500 feet and begin to traverse east (skiers left) towards the top of the Palmer chairlift, completing essentially a long, detoured circumnavigation of Crater Rock. From here follow the obvious tracks down to the parking lot.
