This is a popular ski touring route which is generally considered to be severe. It's remote, it features high exposure (e3) and is typically done between January and May. From a low point of 1.8 km to the maximum altitude of 3.4 km, the route covers 5.1 km, 1617 vertical metres of ascent and 1 vertical metres of descent. It's graded 5.1 and Labande grade 5. You'll need rope, skins, ice axe, crampons and glacier kit to complete it safely.

Description

Skin Up to the right of the Palmer chairlift to Devils Kitchen. Switch to crampons and ascent the "Hogsback" and continue up through the pearly gates.

Severe

Steep skiing at 38-45 degrees. This requires very good technique and the risk of falling has serious consequences.
