Trail Running Moderate
Round Valley is a network of trails on the edge of Park City, in the vicinity of a public park and ice skating arena. These trails are popular for running, mountain biking, and hiking with locals and visitors alike. The Somewhere Elks-Rambler Loop is particularly good for running, but it's only one of many possible combinations.
Begin from the trailhead called Quinn’s Junction at the public park, starting on a wide dirt path. After turning onto a narrower dirt path and passing the ice arena, you’ll climb the hill on Somewhere Elks Trail. The landscape on all sides is open sagebrush and rolling hills, with the Wasatch Mountains on the near horizon. Juniper trees dot the slopes as you climb higher, but it remains fairly open and exposed the whole way. Thus, this trail is perfect on a calm and cool day, but considerably less pleasant when very windy or very hot.
You’ll dip in and out of a small valley on top of the hill, then meet Rambler Trail. This makes a curvy, fun descent of the other side. The surface can be loose in places, so watch your footing. It leads back around the base of the hill to finish where you started.
