Dogleg Peak Camping Mission Map

The whole Dogleg Peak area has been one of my go to areas for years as you just can’t beat both the terrain and access. This area offers it all with wide open low angle bowls, steep tree skiing and a real nice chute on the North side as well as some open trees on its south slope. Being that this area is just above the Quicksilver Chair you can be standing on top in just a few hours and if you are fast have the place all to yourself.

Description

Leaving the Crystal Mountain Base make your way up the Quicksilver ski run until you arrive at the flat exit of Silver Basin. From here you need to take a hard skiers left which crosses the main creek before heading south to the shores on Lower Hen Skin Lake. Wrap around the lake and start heading west and before long you will reach a wide open apron just below the Dog Legged Chute. Standing at the base of the chute head up the lookers left side of the apron making sure not to climb directly below said chute.

Soon enough you will be at the base of the chutes rock wall and start making a hard lookers left traverse that will lead you into the gentle slopes of Dogleg Bowl. From there you have a nice and mellow ramp all the way to the summit of Dogleg Peak. Standing on the summit if you are early enough in the season the South facing slopes should be holding good snow so drop in a few hundred feet until the trees start getting too dense to be enjoyable. Now loosely follow your descend tracks back up but stick to the lookers left side as the final summit climb is much easier via the west ridge.

Once again you will be standing on top and if you look directly north the slope seems to drop off, this is the dogleg chute. The entrance is relatively easy as you slide down though a few dense trees and before long are looking down a beautiful line all the way into the valley. Don’t get too comfortable as this area can slab pretty easily and will take you for a ride. But if all is good ride the line one at a time with the first person traversing to a safe spot just before the crux of the chute. Then since you got first tracks your friend can ride all the way back down into the valley.

Wanting more……Well then just head right back up the old skin track to the summit then instead of taking the same route head a little ways down the West ridge and drop into the steep trees. This route will take you back into the main apron just below the chute and is a great bonus to add to an already full day.
