Description

Grete moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 2005 to attend the University of Utah, live by an international airport, and ski the Greatest Snow on Earth. Little did she know she would be here over 15 years later.

Utah’s landscape is considered a high desert, meaning it’s very dry and there are not that many trees besides robust Juniper and Engelmann Spruce. However, as the Wasatch Mountains are located next to the Great Salt Lake, the moisture that builds over the lake turns into dry fluffy powder snowflakes that fall onto the mountains.

Solitude Mountain Resort is located 13 miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon, about a 40-minute drive from downtown Salt Lake City. The resort sits right in the middle of the Wasatch Mountains in-between many other ski resorts like Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, and Park City. Additionally, there is quite a bit of backcountry terrain that you can access from the backcountry gates at Solitude. You can access this terrain by traversing, boot packing, or touring.

In this guidebook, Grete highlights her favourite runs at Solitude. Whether you're looking to find leftover powder or ski a gnarly chute off Fantasy Ridge. You'll find the goods in this guidebook. Grete hopes to see you out there!
