This ride is the perfect solution for those seeking a quiet, peaceful ride on a hot day. It starts in Mayrhofen and then takes you - via some quite steep jeep tracks - to a welcoming and quirky hut with something to do for all the family.

Description

Head out of Mayrhofen on Brandbergstrasse and follow this as it climbs and its name changes to Brandberg and then Zillergrund. 1.5 kilometres after you pass the toll booth for the Zillergrund valley, turn right onto a jeep track (signposted for the Alpengasthaus Alpenrose - your destination) and begin climbing up through quiet forests. The track is steep in places but much of the ride is in the shade so this trip is a good option in hot weather.

Pass through a couple of clearings and then, just before reaching the hut, you will emerge onto the tree-less slope which houses the Alpengasthaus Alpenrose. Ride up to it and settle in for a few hours of relaxing, eating and (if your age is in single figures) playing! The hut is rustic, the hosts welcoming and the food excellent so that few hours is likely to feel too short. There are facilities for the kids to play with and there are also animals to look at as well.

When everyone has had their fill of food and leisure, reverse the ascent route back to Mayrhofen. The ride down is easy enough, albeit steep in places, so savour the last few moments of being in the forests before returning to the bustle of the village.
