Alpine Climbing Severe
From the Chabod Hut follow the main track as for the Grand Paradiso. Leave this at the foot of an obvious moraine at 2800m, just after a stream bed. Go up this, then easier angled slopes above, heading SSE onto the Montandayne Glacier. Aim towards the obvious steeper snowy/icy slope which leads to the col to the L of the Piccolo Paradiso.
Head up this slope more steeply, initially SE, then E and NE, avoiding the serac as far as possible. The exact line will vary and rock belays may be possible off to the side on the L in ascent. It is up to 45 degrees toward the col at 3750m. The line from here is self evident along the crest itself over the Piccolo Paradiso and then onto the summit of the Grand Paradiso. There are sections of rock up to grade IV and various rocky towers, most of which are passed on the Chabod side. From the summit of the Grand Paradiso follow the normal route down to the Vittorio Emmanuel or the Chabod Huts.
