A wide open bowl that funnels into steep terrain
Freeride Skiing Severe
Hollywood Bowl sits above the Motutapu chutes. If you chose to ski in here then you are committed to skiing all the way to the valley floor. The bowl itself acts like a mitt and catches a lot of snow - its wide and steep in places and you can pick from a range of terrain. The bowl then funnels down into the main couloir, which ends up very tracked out after the first handful of skiers due to how narrow it becomes just below the bowl. There is then a slight bottle neck before opening out where you can take your pick of the terrain again. The Motutapu chutes are very unique, and people look forward to them opening all winter, so be warned it can get very tracked. Take the risk though, it's most definitely worth it.
Severe
Steep skiing at 38-45 degrees. This requires very good technique and the risk of falling has serious consequences.
