Storgalten is one of the most visited peaks in the Lyngen Alps. With its location in the north of the Lyngen Peninsula, with an epic view to the peaks in the south, as well as many and varied downhill opportunities, the many visitors are well deserved.
The starting point at "Galtdalen" in "Nord Lenangen" is about 42 kilometers from the ferry terminal at "Svensby". On the north side of the "Galtelva" there is a large parking lot. Otherwise it's easy to find other parking spots.
The start of the tour is on the south side of the "Galtelva" and it begins with a smooth ascent up to about 300 m. Then it gets a little steeper again towards the ridge between "Storgalten" and "Litlegalten" at around 720 meters above sea level. The last bit to the top goes on and off the mountain's north ridge from where you can enjoy the breathtaking view.
At the top there is one of the roughest views of the Lyngen Alps, as you can see all the sharp peaks on the northern part of the peninsula. In addition, you can see "Reinøya", "Vannøya", "Arnøya", "Kåfjorden Alps" and "Tromsø mainland".
There are a number of descend possibilities. The steepest route is the farthest to the south, while it gradually becomes slimmer the more north you go.
This is also a mountain with a long season, if you are willing to carry your skis the first part up "Galtdalen".
Moderate
Slopes become slightly steeper at around 25-30 degrees.
