Imagine standing on top of the highest peak in the Lyngen Alps, Jiehkkevarri. Above the Arctic Circle and 40 kilometres from the nearest city, Tromsø, you look down at the fjord - sparkling in the sunshine below you. You drop in and make the first descent of untouched snow under the midnight sun. This is the proper Norwegian way of Backcountry skiing.
The Lyngen Alps are an iconic backcountry ski area in the northern of Norway. The peninsula is surrounded by water, which offer typically Norwegian backcountry skiing from mountains and down to the fjords.
The Lyngen Alps are about 90km long & 20km wide and the highest mountain is Jiehkkevarri, at 1833m. The peninsula has it all; glaciers, steep couloirs, gentle bowls, tree skiing at low elevations, stunning views, the midnight sun, aurora borealis, and typical, deep Norwegian fjords.
