This recommended loop connects some of the most popular trails in the easily-accessible Tibidabo zone of Collserola. The run begins at the mid-station of the Valvidrera Funicular, which gets you halfway up the mountain. You’ll start running on the flat gravel road known as Carretera de Les Aigues—one of the most popular routes in the region.

But this route gets more difficult in a hurry, as it climbs toward the top of the mountain. The run ascends the dry, south-facing slopes of Collserola. While the vegetation here is relatively open and sparse, after you cross over to the north-facing slopes, the vegetation is dense, and the woods feel deep and dark. Here, you'll wind your way beneath a dark forest canopy along ancient singletrack trails filled with rocks and roots. Some sections of the trail will be relatively flat and runnable, and others can be very steep and eroded.

This loop circumnavigates el Tibidabo, an-ultra popular tourist spot on the top of the mountain. You can easily add on a quick visit to Tibidabo to this route. If you do, you’ll get to see "the Sagrat Cor church and adjacent Tibidabo Amusement Park. The Torre de Collserola telecommunications tower is a short walk away. All three are prominently visible from most of the city of Barcelona. Designed by Enric Sagnier, the church took 60 years to construct and is topped by a sculpture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus by Josep Miret Llopart,” according to Wikipedia.

If you want to extend even further, a multitude of trails and routes begin or end at el Tibidabo. Check out "The 8 Best Trail Runs in Barcelona’s Parc de Collserola” guidebook for more trail ideas!
