Via Alpina Green Route C8: Engelberg to Meiringen Map

This section of the Via Alpina starts with a tough climb out of the village Engelberg through woods and alpine meadows to Gerschnialp. Follow the mountain trail along a ridge past the glistening Trüebsee lake to Joch pass. Brace yourself for a steep and winding trail with many tight bends on the mountainside to Joch Pass. Catch your breath and take in the views of the Titlis glacier, the summits of Nollen, the Wendenstock and the Pfaffenhut, and not to forget the Engstlensee lake far below.

Description

The pass then begins the descent down through blooming alpine meadows, pine forests, and down to the sparkly Engstlensee lake and Engstlenalp. Climb up a short way to the Tannen and Melchsee-Frutt high plateau and enjoy views over the Rosenlaui area, the Engelhörner mountains and the triumvirate of the Wetterhorn massif, as you pass from the Tennessee lake along a Balcony trail along a rocky mountain ridge, where the uneasiness you feel underfoot is made up for by the spectacularness of the views! The steep and very long climb down takes you across alpine meadows to Reuti, through a forest down a steep and bendy road to Meiringen.
