Direct Chute Map

A classic hike to a fun chute off the top of Granite Chief peak. If you have the lungs, this is a great run. Check with patrol at the top of Granite Chief chair to make sure the hike is open. The east facing chute directly off of the very summit is Direct Chute. It is steep and narrow, the bottom is even narrower during low snow conditions. If you are not comfortable with a steep narrow chute, don't try this. Direct Chute empties into a nice bowl area with a few trees and then merges with Hidden Bowl. It's a short chute, but you don't want to miss any turns because of the rocks and rock wall on the left.
