One of the more menacing zones in the Fish Creek Canyon
Freeride Skiing Severe
The Fish Creek area is a legendary side country canyon parallel to Steamboat Resort. It's home to some of the most accessible extreme terrain in all of Colorado! Zone 1.5 is an exceptionally challenging part of Fish Creek and is sandwiched between Zone 1 and Zone 2. This makes it a bit challenging to find. Start on either the entrance to Zone 1 or Zone 2 and work your way to the middle of the two areas. It's here that you'll find Zone 1.5. This run starts off mellow but quickly gets extreme as there are only two skiable lines in this zone,. Both lines are extremely gnarly and are bordered by trees and a prominent rock wall. After clearing this section, you'll merge with the runout for Zone 2. This line will take you to the bottom of the zone where you must skin/hike out. Note that the runout has massive boulders that could make for some great pillows under the right conditions.
Severe
Steep skiing at 38-45 degrees. This requires very good technique and the risk of falling has serious consequences.
