Mt. Ashland's most remote glade.
Freeride Skiing Moderate
The Moraine Glade is the most difficult glade on Mt. Ashland to access and return from, meaning that it often holds great snow even late on a powder day. To access Moraine, the bowl terrain first needs to be opened by ski patrol. You'll begin by traversing along the top of the bowls, all the way to the very end of the ridge before following the knob straight down into Moraine Glade.
Since the glade is located so far from the lift, you'll have to give yourself enough time and elevation to traverse back out to the main slopes before you hit the ski area boundary. This is a lengthy traverse to return to the bottom of the Ariel lift by Mt. Ashland standards. Also, there's a small valley formed by the East Fork of Ashland Creek. If you drop into the valley, you may have to climb back uphill to reach the traverse track and return to the chair.
Moraine Glade covers a substantial area with a number of possible lines available. While you have to traverse past Mt. Ashland's gnarliest terrain to reach this slew of lines, Moraine isn't actually all that steep or challenging. According to FATMAP, Moraine maxes out at a gradient of 26°, which is much milder than even Brutus's 32°. However, do keep an eye out for small cliff bands and changes in terrain.
