Hiking Moderate
The Sol Duc Falls hike is a mesmerizing journey through the lush rainforests of Olympic National Park in Washington State. As you embark on this adventure, you'll be immersed in the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, surrounded by towering trees, moss-covered rocks, and the soothing sounds of cascading water.
The trailhead for Sol Duc Falls is easily accessible from the Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort area, where you'll find ample parking and restroom facilities. From there, the trail meanders through old-growth forest, following the course of the Sol Duc River as it tumbles over rocks and through narrow gorges.
As you hike deeper into the forest, you'll encounter a series of wooden footbridges that span the river, and along the way, keep an eye out for wildlife such as deer, elk, and a variety of bird species that inhabit the dense vegetation.
The culmination of the hike is Sol Duc Falls, where, the river plunges over a rocky cliff in a spectacular display of natural beauty, sending mist into the air and creating rainbows in the sunlight. It's a perfect spot to pause, take photos, and soak in the awe-inspiring scenery.
The route we've drawn here is the extended version of the hike, but just going to the falls and back is an easier option for those who don't want such a long hike.
