Description

Why is the Italian mountain town Livigno nicknamed "Little Tibet"? Because of its remoteness and excellent hiking. Situated at over 1800m in a wide, sweeping valley in the province of Sondrio, hikers will be amazed by the number of routes to follow, and the vast landscape to enjoy.

Many of the trails have ancient origins—either agricultural, military, or former smuggling routes across the mountains. Livigno lies close to the Swiss border, and because of its hard to reach location, it has been granted a tax-free status. So after a hard day out in the mountains, you can take the free public transport back to the valley floor and fill your boots with wonderfully-affordable Italian delicacies.

If you love lake hikes, try the Cancano Lakes or the Livigno Lake trails. For those wanting a vertical challenge, go for the Passo Val Alpisella.
