The trail system permeating Breckenridge and Summit County is easily one of the best in the nation. And while hitting local hikes that leave right from the edge of town is incredibly convenient, every now and then, you have to break out of your routine and challenge yourself with a true peak climb.

What better challenge than bagging one (or maybe even four!) of the 14,000-foot peaks close to Breckenridge?

Breckenridge’s “local” 14er is Quandary, found just south of town on Highway 9. The Quandary Trailhead is also right off the pavement, making this one of the easiest to access 14ers in the state. It’s also on the less challenging end of the 14er spectrum.

If you want to bag two peaks in one hike, Grays and Torreys provides a fantastic two-summit combination in a relatively quick hike. Both of these summits are known for being quite easy, in the grand scheme of 14er hiking. But remember, there’s no such thing as an easy 14er!

If two peaks in one hike isn’t enough… well, what about four?! The DeCaLiBron loop, located just on the other side of Hoosier Pass from Breckenridge, bags a whopping four 14ers in a mere seven miles of hiking. However, unlike Quandary, there’s a lengthy dirt road drive required to access the trailhead for this route.
