Description

While some mountain town destinations require hikers to scale literal mountains in order to reach scenic vistas, the landscape around Bend, Oregon lends itself to mellow, relaxed walks through the woods. Sure, you can still climb a volcano or two in the nearby mountains, but if you would prefer to meander along a smooth, sandy trail instead of scaling a steep scree field, we have you covered. In this guidebook, you’ll find three short, easy hikes to get you started.

First up, every visitor to Bend has to take in the view of the stunning Tumalo Falls. Here, Tumalo Creek flies off a precipice, dropping 97 feet straight down to thunder on the rocks in the bottom of a canyon far, far below. Even in the heat of summer and the cold of winter, the constant flow of water provides a stunning spectacle that draws thousands of hikers and photographers to the edge of the canyon every year.

Next, sample Bend’s ultra-popular Phil’s trail system on this short 5.5-mile loop. This is just one loop of many that you could enjoy in this area.

Finally, if you’re looking for a hike with more views than Phil’s has to offer, try this delightful out-and-back along the Deschutes River.
