Scenic and convenient loop with a view over Jasper.
Hiking Easy
This loop is especially good in autumn when the leaves change color, and when slow alights on surrounding mountains. At any time of year, however, it’s a nice stroll through the forest that includes an incredible view. It can be snowy in winter and muddy in spring, so come prepared for conditions.
The loop follows Trail 2 from Pyramid Lake Road. It’s mostly in the forest, but at the overlook, you’ll find a hillside clearing, where rock slabs make a natural viewing platform. You’ll gaze over the Athabasca Valley, at a panorama that includes several lakes, Jasper Townsite, and a wall of mountains on the horizon.
If you want to top off your hike with a bite to eat, the loop conveniently passes close to Pyramid Lake Resort and The Pines restaurant. Just follow Trail 15 to get there in no time.
