Flute North

Flute North is the farthest bowl from the Symphony Express and the line requiring the longest hike. Skiers must head up the groomed track, and along the ridge line, past Flute's Main Bowl as well as the Shoulder. The North Bowl is the last stretch of terrain before the ridge descends into the lower Encore Ridge that marks the true ski-area boundary. Even though this line requires the longest hike out of all the lines in Flute Bowl, it is worth it! Many choose to drop into the earlier lines such as Flute Shoulder and Flute Main, escaping the extra hike needed to reach Flute's North Bowl. This means that the powder found here after a storm will likely last way longer, and you are less likely to encounter anybody else this far along the ridge which requires the extra hard work to enjoy. Flute North requires navigating and launching off of a cornice to gain entry into the line. Make sure you are aware of the hazards and risks involved with cornices before navigating your drop in, or choose a different line earlier along the ridge that does not require negotiating a cornice to gain entry. There are two line options, the first being the steep chute between the rocks, and the other being the line on the other side of the rock, located to skier's right. The chute between the rocks is steep, narrow and exposed up top but widens further down, with the other line being slightly less challenging. Both are steep all the way through and provide great wide open, classic alpine terrain before descending into the basin below. From there, you can locate the groomed track that will lead you back to the base of the Symphony Express. If you're willing to work a little harder for your turns, continue hiking along the ridge line and score in the less-traveled but equally amazing Flute North!
