A great ski tour with 1000m vertical of steady angle from the shoulder of the Aiguille de Chanrossa down to the Roc de la Pêche refuge, best enjoyed after a cold winter snowfall or (even better) with nicely softened spring snow on a sunny morning. Timing will be important here, but there are several access options including staying at the refuge, coming over the top from the Courchevel lift system with a skin up the head of the Les Avals valley or blasting up in a day from Pralognan (described here ).

Description

From Pralognan follow the cross-country tracks heading up the Prioux valley. At the Pont de Gerlon cross the river to follow the road up the east bank to the hamlet of Montaimont - 200m beyond this a short gentle descent takes you to the bridge over the river and the Roc de la Pêche refuge. From here skin up the wide east-facing slopes, keeping left of the rocky knoll at c2500m, and continue above up steepening terrain, aiming to just to the right of the summit of the Aiguille de Chanrossa, where it should be possible to access the ridge.

The descent follows the line of ascent, with a few variants possible which are easy to scope out on the way up. From the refuge - if conditions are cold and stable - it is possible to ski the left bank of the valley down to Pont de la Pêche, crossing the river via a snow bridge or at the ford where the summer track crosses. If in doubt cross back over as per the ascent via the bridge upstream of Montaimont and follow the right bank back down to Pont de Gerlon and the cross-country tracks.
