Gentianes - Mont-Fort Couloir Map

The snow transforms quickly in this S facing couloir so get there quickly after fresh snowfall or wait for good spring conditions. The couloir is accessed as per Stairway to Heaven but you traverse across from the Col to reach the top of the couloir. From the Col de Gentianes, traverse high, skiers left to the N towards the 'Stairway to Heaven' col. Boot pack up the short couloir for around 100m. From the col, take a long traverse line with skins on and locate the entrance to the col.

Description

Warning: avalanche danger on the traverse and steep slopes above. This couloir is immediately above a piste, and if an avalanche were set off by a skier in the couloir it would endanger the lives of the skiers on the piste.

Ski the wide couloir which opens out and finishes by joining the red piste from Gentianes to La Chaux.

Difficulty

Severe

Steep skiing at 38-45 degrees. This requires very good technique and the risk of falling has serious consequences.

1 out of 4

Exposure is limited to that of the slope itself. Getting hurt is still likely if the slope is steep and/or the snow is hard.
