Lonscale Fell Map

As the old dismantled railway trail from Keswick to Threlkeld is currently closed (since the December 2015 floods) this route now heads out of town on quiet road then a track on the opposite side of the river. Drop into Threlkeld before steadily climbing back out on a small lane to the Blencathra Centre. A wide track then skirts the hillside to the head of the valley, before a ford crossing of Glendeterra Beck and a steep climb up to reach technical singletrack returning along the side of Lonscale Fell. A couple of exposed and tricky technical sections will keep even the best riders entertained, with others choosing to walk those short sections! A final fantastic and fast descent back to Keswick finshes the ride off...just watch out for walkers! This route is best avoided on sunny summer weekends and bank holidays when the number of walkers means you won't be able to enjoy letting off the brakes on the final descent!

Difficulty

Difficult

Mostly stable trail tread with some variability featuring larger and more unavoidable obstacles that may include, but not be limited to: bigger stones, roots, steps, and narrow curves. Compared to lower intermediate, technical difficulty is more advanced and grades of slopes are steeper. Ideal for upper intermediate riders.
